Research indicates that there a several common ways to steal a bicycle and that location and design of the cycle storage unit can also be a contributing factor.
These are some of the most common situations and methods of cycle theft:
- The lock is manoeuvred to the ground, this then acts as a hard solid surface to use to smash the lock off with a large object.
- The bike if locked to a post, is lifted up and over the post.
- Low level cycle storage provide cover for thieves, allowing them more time to tamper with locks.
- Quick release wheels can be stolen and damaged when secured to free-standing bike.
These are the ways Cyclepods help prevent theft and vandalism:
- Locks secured to the Cyclepod can not be manoeuvred to the ground.
- Once a bike is locked into a Cyclepod it can not be lifted or manoeuvred out.
- Because bikes are stored on their rear wheel in a highly-visible way, it’s much harder to tamper with a cycle undetected.
- Cyclepods secure bikes in a track, making it extremely difficult to manoeuvre out the wheels.
In June Last year (2006), Cyclepods was invited to a attend the ‘Design Against Crime Exhibition’ in London. The event was supported by Transport for London and hosted by ‘Bike Off’ and ‘Re-inventing the Bike Shed’. Cyclepods was chosen because the organisers believed our products to be “an exemplary method of storing bikes securely and efficiently”. We were given the most prominent location at the event, attracting the interest of local governments from all over the UK.
Cyclepods – the solution to cycle parking!
- Storage and security for eight bikes within a two metre diameter – a space saving of almost 40% over Sheffield stands.
- Almost every part of the bike can be locked to the unit, securing the most expensive and highly-targeted parts of the bike in place.
- A sustainable product manufactured from recycled materials, promoting a greener way of life and encouraging cycling through design.
